Say Good-bye to Corn Ethanol
Written by on July 2, 2008

With the combination of grain prices and flooding in the Mid-west, it appears ethanol may be reaching the end of its small popularity. Heartland Ethanol not only isn’t opening their seven new plants, they are also dissolving the company. VeraSun Energy has also delayed building of two plants because of the current ethanol situation.
The production of corn has dropped 10% since last year, and has passed $8/bushel. In fact a statistic recently came out that the amount of corn if would take to produce ethanol to fill your car, could feed someone for an entire year! This shows that ethanol truly is not a practical alternative energy source.
The large buzz about ethanol has come to an end. It appears the new thing in biofuel will be from algae.
