Nice Lawn or Green Concrete?

Written by on July 2, 2008

I’ll be the first to admit a nice green lawn is very nice to look at, but other than the color how green is it? You will be surprised to find out just how harmful your lawn actually is. Lawns require large amount of water as wells as fertilizers, and because of their shallow roots most of the water runs off. As a result huge amount of water are needed, and pesticides run down to public drinking water supplies. How refreshing!

So what is a better approach?

Survival of the fittest. Let your lawn grow, and often times you will find wild flowers will grow. TV shows on HGTV suggest planting a “meadow” just for looks! You’ll save money of gas, water, and fertilizers.

In Las Vegas residents were actually paid to tear up their lawns. An estimated 55 gallons of water per square foot was saved by doing this.

So maybe your lawn won’t match your neighbors who spends hours everyday and hundreds of dollars on his lawn, but you might find you prefer your lawn that is truly GREEN!
